In a post-digitalization age, journalist-audience interactions are an indispensable part of journalistic routines. By conducting a Q-sort study, we analyze what expectations recipients have regarding digital interactions with journalists and how to typify them. Our study gives insights as to what the audience expects when it comes to their online interactions with journalist in a nuanced way. As we see, interaction expectations differ vastly. We differentiate between two prevailing types of expe... read more

This study examines how the evolving conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic shaped audience expectations of journalism in Austria. Traditionally defined by roles such as Informer and Watchdog, journalists adapted to new roles during the crisis, including Collaborator with health officials, Science Communicator, and Fact-Checker. Drawing on data from three waves of the Austrian Corona Panel Project with approximately 1,500 participants per wave, we analyze audience expectations of nine journalistic ... read more

Air pollution, particularly particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5), poses significant health risks in urban areas like Tehran, Iran. Despite efforts to predict PM2.5-prone areas, uncertainty remains challenging, hindering effective mitigation strategies. This study addresses this gap by investigating uncertainty in PM2.5 prediction in Tehran. To achieve this goal, a database containing 11 factors influencing PM2.5 occurrence was established for modelling purposes. This study employed a deep learning app... read more

International studies have found that students who were already at risk of educational disadvantage before the pandemic tended to fall even further behind compared to other learners. The current study aims to shed light on teachers’ awareness of prevailing discriminatory environments in schools and their suggestions for countermeasures. Results from four online quantitative cross-sectional studies (N = 6,659) indicate that each teacher sample is aware that overall academic achievement has declin... read more

This paper centers on land as the connecting thread of different development projects in the Dalmatian hinterland (Croatia): the building of a dam and a reservoir as part of the grand Yugoslav socialist electrification of the 1950s, and the post-socialist profit-driven investments in renewable energy launched in the 2010s. A focus on land brings together studies of land politics in Eastern Europe with studies of human–nature relations and makes two contributions. First, I focus on the materialit... read more

As the residual products of severe chemical weathering, bauxite deposits serve both as essential economic Al-Fe resources and geochemical archives that reveal information about the parent rocks’ composition, paleoenvironments and paleoclimates, and the tectonic settings responsible for their genesis. The well-developed Early Paleocene bauxite deposits of the Salt Range, Pakistan, provide an opportunity for deciphering their ore genesis and parental affinities. The deposits occur as lenticular bo... read more

The study presents the results of a 2-year research project on the therapeutic practices in psychiatry at the University Clinic of Vienna under the leadership of Hans Hoff from 1951 to 1969. Hoff took over as Head of the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology shortly after his return to Vienna from whence he had had to flee after Austria’s “Anschluss” (annexation) to Nazi Germany in 1938 because of his Jewish background. The focus of the investigation was on the extent, methods and justification... read more

Countable L-structures N whose isomorphism class supports a permutation invariant probability measure in the logic action have been characterized by Ackerman–Freer–Patel to be precisely those N which have no algebraicity. Here we characterize those countable L-structures N whose isomorphism class supports a quasi-invariant probability measure. These turn out to be precisely those N which are not “highly algebraic”—we say that N is highly algebraic if outside of every finite F there is some b and... read more

Music listening may decrease pain via psychobiological mechanisms. Music listening style (MLS) influences music processing: Music empathizers (ME) focus on emotional aspects of music, whereas music systemizers (MS) focus on structural aspects, potentially affecting processes of music-induced analgesia. The effects of the MLS on music-induced analgesia might depend on the source of music selection (i.e. who selects the music) and gender. Different psychological mechanisms, such as stimulus-induce... read more
